this feature should be changed (if at all possible) so it doesn't do it to fragments of words, because when a certain combination of letters occurs in a word it doesnt mean the same thing, and as it is it censors words like Michael Moor****, ****roach and Girga****es, if I didn't already know about the Girga****es I wouldnt know what it was supposed to be. It's a very unnecessary thing to do.

Shazane, it's a minor inconvenience. It helps keep this a clean forum, that's all. There's no way to "have our cake and eat it too" with regard to this. Like DC said, use spaces if you want to spell out the word. Just don't cuss. We don't allow it in here.

    Thanks for understanding!

You can't white list certain words or phrases? I mean, if it ever comes up you could add them to the list. For instance, **** could be applicable only if the word Moby precedes it i.e. Moby **** would show, but **** by itself wouldn't...

And for names and such, the total combination of letters would be allowed and only that combination, and anything else would be starred out.

I guess it would be a pain to implement, and everyone knows what Moby **** is anyway. So it's really a small price to pay. Just an idea though.

You basically mean like a reverse filter. SO instead of looking for words to blot out, it's loocking for words that are ok.

    Sort of.

What I mean, is instead of having a whole blacklist of swearing... Having a smarter filter which would determine "****" from "Moby ****". Sort of Context-sensitive.

But it would probably be a waste of time and effort, especially how most people just put up with it anyway.

If you absolutely have to spell out something that you know is going to be starred then you will just have to think of another way to rephrase your sentence. Inconvenient? I don't know...I figure if it's going to make me think then I'm ahead of the game for it. So, if you want to use this forum to explore classic literature then, Moby Richard it is.
