I used to rough up my sticks with a little sandpaper.
Anyone else get problems with gripping the sticks?
My hands are naturally quite dry and find that gripping the sticks can sometimes be a problem.
Anyone got any suggestions?
I use a range of sticks from 5A to the machinehead endorsed customs (heavyweight) and suffer the same problem with all of them.
I use Vater grip tape available at your music store.

"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham
Zildjian makes a stick wax that works good.
There is also a wax called Dr Zogs Sex Wax (don't ask, I don't know) that also works pretty good.
just spotted some stuff called "Gorilla Snot" lol
I'll say again: hand lotion of any kind.
Or the old-fashioned baseball trick: spit.

Stick wax as Rick suggested. Works great.
ProMark also makes a stick wrap that they appropriately call Stick Rapp. The names not real creative, but I use it, and it works. It looks just like the Vater wrap.
BTW, Drum Bum has the Sex Wax, if you're thinking about it: http://store.drumbum.com/skuA-97.html

I hate drum tape. I also make sure to buy uncoated drumsticks because my hands sweat and the sticks start slipping.
I seem to have the same problem sometimes also. I noticed a Can of Zildjian Drumstick Wax at a drum shop nearby. I had never seen that packaging before. I guess it was the "old" packaging. Anyway, the stuff ended up being $1.99! Usually it is like $6 bucks of more. I thought what can I lose? So I tried it and just love it. The stuff smells good, does not feel sticky after playing, and will probably last a good 6 months or so. It like reactivates itself too. Might want to try some of that stuff. I don't think you will regret it. I was always one that said I am going to have to wear gloves, but never wanted too. Now I don't have too. Good luck to you.

If you've got a problem, take it out on a drum.

I might suggest a few options. I also experience slipping, but, as someone previously mentioned, unfinished sticks seem to help with this. I just got several pairs of Regal Tip Jeff Porcaro sticks, and these are the first ones I've owned that are completely unfinished (no lacquer). I think these will help with your problem (not just these particular ones, but any unfinished ones). Also, I was just reading about the Zildjian Danny Seraphine signature sticks, which have an indentation in the stick at the supposed perfect balance point. It looks to me like the indent would serve also to aid in gripping the stick, in addition to indicating the balance point.
Hope this helps.

I have dry hands as well, I have to use a painted or heavily varnished stick. Regal Tips are good.
Lotion is essential as well, but likw Sling said in a pinch a little spit works well
cool, just ordered the wrap first. Then if i don't get on with that, i'll try the wax stuff.
thanks for the help guys.
zildjian makes dip sticks. You get a good grip with these. around $12.00
