I am not sure about others but I sometimes will use 2 snares. My side snare is usually my small snare tuned tight. More of a "popcorn" snare. My center is my more traditional sounding/tuned snare.

Two snares just sounds funny to me. It probably works in some situations though.
Usualy most drummers use 2 snares depending on the type of music played. I use a wood shell snare for warm classic rock and a steel shell snare for louder rock or metal. Some just use a metal shell snare for all music.
I use a side snare for most configurations I use. I like my main snare to have a deep warm crack, and the side snare to have a higher pop to it. It's a cool effect and lends itself to great dynamics throughout a song.

^^^ What all of them said
A lot of drummers that have two snares will have different types and different shells on each one, typically one is tuned very high and poppy, and one is usually low and fat. But it does also double as a spare snare, should the one in the center of you break
Happy Drumming!

I think most guys use them as an alternate snare sound.....
I've never used an extra snare to the left of my hats, but always have a spare along, just in case
Thanks for all the answers

I use two occasionally. Acts as an auxiliary snare for a sound effect/dynamics during different songs. I use a 13" or 12" and tune it fairly high.
