    I would get the Tama kit with Zildjian cymbals! 100% birch shell, superior hardware (Die-cast hoops and Starcast mounts), Zildjian cymbals, hyper-drive sizes (which I like), and you avoid those 5 lug toms on the 10" and 12" toms. Some like/love the 5 lug toms, but I don't like them, so for me that would be a no-go, even though that's just personal preference.

    As it's a first set, you won't have any reference to what she likes best. I too would go with the Gretsch because it has the Zildjian A cymbals. Seems a little high to me (not knowing exactly how many cymbals come with the kit) for a 4-5 piece used kit. However, depending on the number of cymbals, they may be worth half, or more, of that.
