Big budget recording
I see a lot of y'all have home setups for recording...and even a couple of really nice home studios. Anyone ever been involved in big time recording? I mean on a console like this:

Re: Big budget recording
I've never been in a studio with a board that size. I've been in the studio twice, both times owned by the same person, but he changed physical locations between the two sessions.
Here's a shot of me from over his shoulder. He doesn't have a huge board by any stretch, does most of his work on the computer there.

How about this setup:
Pano of the board, lights were off:

Sorry, they won't let me record any of the new songs. Suffice to say, if you're a Sevendust fan, you'll love it.

Re: Big budget recording
Never in behind a board that large! I've done live stuff with a 48 channel board (never used all of the channels though!)
Recorded some stuff with a buddy at the university and the engineer used a 32 channel or so board.

Re: Big budget recording
Well that was crazy! I'm listening to a brand new song here. Incredible!
Afterwards, dinner with the band after a great day in the studio:

All that gear and you endup on pro tools ... Eh

Re: Big budget recording
I've recorded in two of the biggest studios in Cali and they just used pro tools basically mutable computer screens. That looks like the studio city board Dave Grohl bought

Re: Big budget recording
I personally prefer tape when actually spending money , having a big desk means nothing ...looks awsome but seriously unless your doing a live take with a 50pc horn group its just a giant codpiece
home recordings i dont mind straight to disk , the last pro recording i did on a roland console but we had some nice preamps to play with

Re: Big budget recording
I'm not qualified to say either way. I look at it like the band is making their 10th studio album. If anyone knows what they're doing, it should be them. I watched the engineer blast around ProTools and he was quick. I guess once you learn something, it helps to master it.
Either way, it was an incredible experience and glad I got to see it. It will be fun to hear the end result.
My dinner with the band:
