Not sure if I've got 10, at least by name, but I'll see how I go

    1. Joe Satriani
    2. Jeff Healey (The guy is BLIND!!!!! I mean common!)
    3. Stevie Ray Vaughn
    4. Jimmy Page
    5. Kirk Hemmet
    6. Ingwei Marlmsteen (sp?)
    7. Eric Clapton
    8. Carlos Santana

10.And last but not least the one and only!

    Kurt Cobain!

Ok, only joking! Seriously, I'm not sure about 10. There was this band called The Kenny Wayne Shepard Band (with Kenny Wayne Shepard on guitar and vocals) which I actaully quite liked, thought he had a good sound, so maybe him, then there is the guy from Rush - he's pretty talented too (don't know him by name though, could look it up but I'm lazy.) And there is always Michael Angelo Batio, Jimmy Hendrix, or Steve Vai (although, must say I find him to be a less talented version of Satriani, but that's me) and say what you want about them but the guys from Avenged Sevenfold are also very talented, incorporating varied styles, with flamenco training and heavy metal music and I really like their stuff....you don't have to agree - it's my list.

How does a musician not know more than ten great guitarists?

Angus didn't take anything. By Malcom's account, playing lead got in the way of his drinking so he opted just to play rhythm. AC/DC isn't known for great song writing, they're known for Angus' wailing tone and stage antics.

I think it's interesting to note how many "older" names are appearing. Also, how many blues guitarists are mentioned, as opposed to shredders, actually there is hardly any shredders at all. Just noticing that's all.

It was hard to narrow down to 10, but here goes.

In no particular order (couldn't do that one):
    1. Jimi Hendrix
    2. Stevie Ray Vaughn
    3. Steve Vai
    4. Jimmy Page
    5. Eric Clapton
    6. Carlos Santana
7.Jeff Healy (I agree that a blind guitarist is awesome)
    8. Peter Frampton
    9. Pete Townsend
    10. Eddie Van Halen

It's not just that Jeff Healy is blind, but that he is THAT good AND blind aswell. I mean, this gu is good enough to play side by side with Stevie Ray Vaughn anyway, but add to that the fact he is blind (and has been since birth) and basically taught himself guitar, the guy is just amazing.

Yeah, i was just saying that to be blind and playing guitar is amazing. You are right in pointing out that he certainly transcends that definition of his talent, though.

Good choice. Like his work. Another one you just reminded me of (for no apparent reason) is Dave Mustain.

I read a quote by Zack Wylde where he said he had a long way to go before he could fill Randy Rhodes shoes. His humility really impressed me. BTW- I totally covet his black n white bullseye Less Paul.

I believe Dave Mustain is self-taught. That's just amazing.

Zack's Les Paul is coveted by many RD - so there is no shame.

Personally, I find any self taught musican to be extra impressive (myself included :hehe j/k) but yeah, to be that good and self taught is something else entirley.

Oddly enough, in Entropy one of our guitarists is completely self taught and has only been playing for a few years and the other took lessons for 7 years, the self taught one is generally better, his playing is comparable to most professionals already. That says something for natural talent, but also for the importance of practice since the other is almost as good.

Actually you might have a point there - I think people who are self taught tend to practise more. Not saying poeple who get lessons don't practise lots, I am just generalising

I would have thought to put Ritchie Sambora in my list, but he divorced Heather Locklear () for Denise Richards () so now he is just a jackbutt. He may not be in the league of allot of the other guys named so far, but he MADE Bon Jovi, se he would otherwise deserve props for that, but then he did the denise richards () thing.....jackbutt
