I use mostly wood tips. I do have nylon that I use when I want more brightness and bounce out of my ride.

I was tired of having my wood tips chip so I switched over to nylon tips. It makes my cymbals really come to life, especially my ride. I get a nice bounce too.

use to exclusively use Regal Tip 4B's. They only came in nylon. switched to wood after playing those 4B's and never went back.

Used nylon my entire life until about a year or so ago. I thought the nylon sounded better on the cymbals and generally lasted longer.
Now I've come to find the wood tips produce more of the wood click or clack sound I love on the ride when held loosely. It's likely I'm the only one who can hear this sound which mostly emanates from the butt end of the stick but I love the sound. I think mics can pick it up too under certain circumstances.

Anyone know the sound I'm talking about?

Both are nice, nylon sounds great if playing softer notes on RIDE such as jazz I think, but that my 2 cents.

With my Sabian Paragons, the nylon gives more stick definition than wood tips. That's why.

I like wood-tipped sticks, but only for a few days or a week or so. I hate how the tips chip and "sharpen" over time and seem to lose some of their recoiling qualities after a while. It's nylon for me as well!
