What were they thinking?!? (The crazy gear thread)

I guess I've just had drum gear on the mind lately!

I thought this would be fun. What gear have you seen that caused a "What were they thinking?!?" reaction? I've got a few.

Disclaimer: If any of you actually own, play, and/or use any of this stuff, I'd love to hear your feedback - especially if you've had positive results with it.

With that said, here are a few things that I've seen that have caused me to scratch my head a little:

The Sabian Roctagon!




This kick from VOX that someone left in the sun too long:



If you do some hardcore Googling, you can actually find a place that will make a batter-side kick drum head for those kits. As you can imagine, they are made to order. Also, I think that these kicks were made this way so you could attach 2 single kick drum pedals to the same rim...which is pretty cool.

North Drums and Staccato Drums (I mean, I get it. But wow.) Could you imagine trying to find cases for these things?




Also, I'm surprised with the idea that some edrum kits' prices go way above and beyond a custom kit with a very decent rack of cymbals.

I had one of those Rocktagons...i didn't buy it, somebody destroyed one of my cymbals and that's what he gave me as payback.....yuck...so I cut it to make it a round cymbal, which made it sound better, and I still have it, for good or bad!

I believe that was a "Trixon" design.................a fellow drummer of mine had a Trixon kit like that back in the late seventies, early eighties.............definitely strange...............always reminded me of a "Dali" drum kit

Can that be rack mounted or is there a stand for it? Maybe it goes on a snare stand since I see snare wires.

Is that what goes inside a Cajon? - I've hear they have snare wires inside but I've never seen the inner workings. Maybe that is clipped to the inside?

Gotta agree with LG on this one. The sound was actually offensive to my ears.
