How's the going, im new here and only been playing drums about 3 months and learning by ear. just wondering has anyone tips on bass pedal techniques etc. im only ok with that and id like to be able to play faster for longer on it and create really good beats but i find myself losing time when i over complicate. any tips are welcome really.

Welcome mulla! There is a wealth of knowledge in this forum as well as a great bunch of people, I hope you enjoy. I'm also a beginner and this site has helped me tremendously.

Practice the basic rock beat and make sure your bass drum and hi hats hit the beat at the same time. And make sure you don't drop the hi hat's beat.
Once you've done that, expand! Keeping time is very important!

My instructor told me today a good practice for the base pedal is to just sit at your set and and keep stepping on the pedal for about 5 or 6 minutes with the hammer comming with in a milliameter or 2 of actually hitting the base head.

then take a short break and go about 5 or 6 minutes with your hammer actually hitting the base head at a good steady beat..

he said this will build strength and coordination

There aint no magic formula. Its all about practicing and listening. My one tip would be to play heel down and to always take the beater off the the head betwen hits.

Hey mulla, if you're using double pedals, treat your feet like your hands -ie- paradiddles (R,L,R,R-L,R,L,L) slow and steady always until comfortable with the pace -ie- no mistakes.

You have to learn how to walk before you can run.
