It wasn't that hard really, just took a long time. I bought it from a guy on ebay that has the wrap and cutting ability.

Job well done!! Did the wrap have an adhesive backing already on it? I didn't see any glue dripping out of the side of the wrap or any rubberbands or clamps to hold the wrap on the shell as they dried??

Let's compare....yep they look pink but not in a bad way....

Yep. Definitely pink. BUT.....I think I like it better than the standard Champaign sparkle. I think its more colorful, but still has that vintage class.

    Another question for you:

Is the wrap like the vinyl seat material you would find in like a '50's themed diner, or is it more like the the Del Mar wrap that drum companies use?

Yep it did! We didn't use any glue, which might end up being a bad thing in the long run, but we'll see.

Thank you. I still don't like it better than champagne sparkle, but I had a show tonight and I've never gotten so many comments about my drums. Given, they were all about the fact that they couldn't believe I was playing an old pink ludwig, but it was in a very positive way and everybody seemed to like them.

Definitely more likthe the vinyl seat. Which is why there is no stripe on the hoop right now, as it was crazy hard to cut straight.

Wrapping is a different technique to learn with its own set of tools. I am not set up to do wraps, I am not very good at it, plus I am not a fan of wraps. But now you have done it, the second should be 50% easier, so I am sure you will end up buying the colour you really want, might take a year to finally commit, but I bet you will do it.

I could definitely see this happening... I'm really starting to like the pink champagne sparkle so it will probably a long time from now, but I could still definitely see all of that happening eventually...

The reason I said..."Wow, the badges too?" was because to me that felt wrong. It's kinda like taking the vehicle ID number off of a 68 Camaro and putting it on a 1979 Camaro.

Yeah....Standards are known to be incredible drums, so I would have kept it as standards. Just me I guess.

Nice work, I like the color.

I agree, a 14" depth bass drum is the way to go. 16" works too but anything over that is too deep.

I definitely understand that. I think it mostly stems from the fact that I've always wanted a Classic Ludwig kit with the big lugs and 60's badges, so this is probably the closest I'll get to that for a long long time.

My old DW was a 20x16 which sounded good, but any longer and...yeah just too much for me personally.

The cool thing to keep in mind is that you now own all of the hardware to put an orphan shell kit together. If you could buy 1 shell at a time with now hardware you wouldn't be spending much more

Thanks for posting all of these details regarding re-doing your kit.

When I re-do my kit, I think that I'm going to wrap it in either a silver glitter glass OR a ginger glitter glass. Still deciding...

Anyways, I had thought about doing vintage Pearl badges. So, mine would go from this (pic found online/not mine):

    to this:

Along with a vintage drum head. So it would go from this:

to this (minus the word "President"):

I'm thinking I'll probably do that vintage-looking head, but those vintage badges, when they can be found seem to be (A.) expensive, and (B.) beat to pieces. While I'm not a vintage Pearl drum expert, from what I can understand, the actual vintage Pearls were poor copies of better drum kits at the time. I think I read somewhere that they were one of many "wannabe Gretsch kits" of the time. So, me putting those badges on my Sessions would be sort of like putting a Chrysler hood ornament on a Benz.

As a side note, you should have a contest here on DC for naming that pink kit.

I've always been a fan of "Sparkle" finishes..............

If you would have just told us about the "Pink sparkle" without pics, I'd have thought ................... How could you do that to a classic kit?

But after seeing the pics, I love it................looks great...............I'd definitely play it.

How could I do that to a classic kit? Accidentally haha!

But thank you! These things have grown on me quickly.

Wednesday I'm playing at a large local venue that I've always wanted to play that has great sound and lights, so I'll make sure to take pictures! The sparkle should do great with stage lights!

Can you tell a difference in quality from the original wrap to the new one now that it's on the drum? Does is "pop" just as much? What's the texture like on the drum?

I can. I'm not going to lie and say I did a fantastic job haha. There are a few bumps here and there, but also take note that my shells had a fair bit of water damage that made the texture a bit funky.

If "pop" refers to how they look, then oh yes. They pop better than before. They look simply incredible in nearly every lighting situation, especially last night as we played a venue that has some of the best lighting I've ever seen.

    That's good to hear.

What kind of adhesive did you use?
