I thing non-drummers look at the other two mounted toms and think the snare drum should appear similar (up in the air). They don't have a concept of what a snare drum is. They're all just 'drums' to them, lol.

It would be an interesting experiment to get 25 laymen in a room (separately) and ask them to pick out the snare drum. How many do you think could do it?

The thing is, I don’t believe a snare stand will adjust that high up. They had to put the top half of the snare stand into the bottom of a cymbal stand to do it.

It's possible. However, some beginners have a tall snare stand for school band so that could have been mixed in. I see there's another bass drum off to the left. I don't think First Act ever sold a double bass kit so this is definitely a hodgepodge kit.
