What I usually do in that situation is do a cross-stick then hit it with the other stick, making a little flam between the two. It definitely doesn't sound exactly like a hand clap but makes for a decent replacement.
Closest sound to a hand clap
I'll eventually pimp my kit up to include electronics. But currently, I'm arming up the acoustic part first which includes toms, cymbals and what not.
Thing I really need is something acoustic that closely resembles a hand clap. Is there anything out there that can come close?

You could try taping paper to a snare, or getting a wood block maybe?

Put a small splash on your snare. Depending on the splash and snare in question it can be very close.
Also, rim shots on an LP 6" Micro Snare tuned high will do it...

Stack a Zildjian Trashformer on any china and you get something along that line. That's what the Trashformer was designed to do. It's the "Mangini Stack". Google it and watch the Youtube videos.

I imagine These will work pretty good if you change the tempo a lil and maybe hollow em out a tad.

On a side note: Ever notice that it's impossible to play a round of golf without someone bring out a line from Caddy Shack? "It's in the hole!", "Oh, he got a hold of that one" or referencing playing a round with the Dali Lama.
