12 yrs ago when I started I bought this Sonor 3003 or 3001, whichever one was the Maple/basswood. Man look at the angles...LOL Great kit and wish I still had it but mostly just because it was my 1st. she was very nice to look at. I would love to try tuning her now that I know a little bit more, back them i was more worried about learning to play than tuning.

Decide whether this is love for the craft or simply an ego thing
http://www.redskymary.com/ NOT MY BAND, JUST A GREAT LOCAL BAND WHO SHOULD BE SOOO MUCH BIGGER IMO
My very first set was a pink marble pearl set . Got it from the drummer of the Ugly ducklings. Then have had Ludwigs to this day.
So whats so wrong with laughing. Some need to learn to laugh
First kit started out as a Sonor bop my borther played.
kit.
Then he added a Sonor 16" floor and CB700 14/16 concert toms. This is the kit I inherited from my brother.
Then, in a fit of teenage insanity, I had the bop kit stripped and recovered black. also added 8/10 Yamaha birch toms.
30 years later, I reconditioned the bop kit, got rid of the add on toms, cleaned up the rosewood 16" floor and gave them back to my brother.
Proudly playing:
Doc Sweeney Drums
A bunch of snares
A bunch of cymbals
Off-Set double pedals
I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!
My first kit was in 1976.
Drums by Raven (?).
20" bass, 12" mounted tom, 14" floor and 5" x 14" matching snare.
Came with bass drum pedal, HH stand and one cymbal stand.
Finished in what looks like today's DW Classic Marine Pearl finish.
Happy days!
DW drums and Paiste cymbals.

My old 60's Ludwig "Ringo" kit...................worked a paper route for two years to save up for it..................loved it. Still wish I had it.
Not a good pic............but the only one I have
My first one was this $65 no namer I found at Salvation Army. It was in pretty bad shape, I had to do some restorations like adding lugs and heads. It had a few Ludwig Weathermasters on it's batters, so I always thought it was a Ludwig. Lucked out and a friend of mine at the time, his dad had to move to Chula Vista so I scored a nice 80's Tama Swingstar that I combined with the (?) Ludwig and got a taste of monster kits. I was hooked from there. Wish I would've kept those..

The Rudiments
My first kit was a Ddrum D2 kit that I got in trade for a Yamaha electric guitar. It wasn't anything special, but it was enough to tell me that I should have been playing drums all along, instead of guitar!
My first was a Pearl back in 1966 not sure what series it was but I know for sure they where from the 60's era. I paid 50 for the 4 piece with 1 crash, hhts and ride. The finish looked like imitation wood wallpaper lol. Then I bought another kit for 80 and it was a Ludwig also of the 60's era in Blue glass finish. Not sure of the series either. Back then you didn't really care of what series they were as long as the price was right that was good enough lol. This was my first double kit lol weird colors but sounded good. Wish I would of kept them but you know there comes important things in life than your drums lol.

In or around 1985 my dad brought home my first kit as a surprise. It was a Maxwin (by Pearl), from the 70s I believe, as it was all concert toms to include the absence of a resonate head on the kick. Here is a stock photo of the kit, although mine was white or I should say off-white due to sun fading.
Around 1991 a guy who lived in a culd-de-sac behind me stopped by. He used to hear me play these drums in the garage. I hadn't touched them in years. He asked if I still had them and if I would sell them. Off they went and began my 19 year drum hiatus.
A 4pc set of red sparkle Pearl drums - 1967. Way before Pearl was a quality name. And as crappy as it may have actually been, man, did I love that set! My parents bought it second hand for Christmas and spent hours shining it up. Haven't stopped drumming since.
My first kit was a 1960's or 70's Ludwig 4-piece with blue sparkle wrap. I don't know what series it was but I remember the bass drum was painted white inside. I got it in Jr. High School (Middle School) and played it in the school Jazz band with Karl Perazzo (who of course blew me away). Karl played many a ten-minute drum solo on that kit. I stupidly sold off those drums as soon as I could to get my dream kit: a 5-piece Ludwig stainless steel. I just recently sold the stainless steel kit and wish I'd kept that original sparkle Ludwig!
