    Default Your First Drumset ?

The photo below is very close to matching my first drumset.
On my 11th birthday, my Dad bought me a used (late '50s vintage) black-and-gold du-co Slingerland set.
The bass drum was a single-tension lug set-up........meaning that, when you tightened the heads, they both got tighter simultaneously...........they were not independent.
I taught myself the basics on this kit, playing along with simple pop songs; a 4-pc. with matching snare and no hi-hat :

    Gretsch USA & Zildjian

Still have the '67 Ludwig 3pc kit I bought for $350 back in '83. It came with a set of vintage Zildjian A 15" thin jazz hats, vintage 20" Zildjian A ride and a Zildjian A 16" thin crash. Added a 14" Rocker tom and a set of roto toms when I started jamming with my buddy a year later:

    1983-1984 with sparkle green wrap:

Re-wrapped in candy apple red 1985:

    Re-wrap started peeling back 2009:

Stripped off the wrap and left the kit unfinished as a "player's kit" rather than a full restoration back in 2010.

6-piece set of Tama Rockstars (early 1990s). While here is the standard 4-piece, you can see the other two toms in the background.

My first drum kit - I don't remember what brand it was or what happened to it but it had steel drum heads. I was about 7 years old when my parents gave it to me. How do parents live with the noise?

1976 Ludwig Pro Beat (13,14,16,18,24, Supraphonic) in Sky Blue Pearl. Got it brand new my sophomore year in High School.

Still hate myself for selling it, but it was HUGE! I'm not sure I could gig with a kit that size.

A 60's 4 pc. champagne sparkle Beverley (I believe bop sized kit?) with Beverley cymbals. My Uncle gave it to me in 1972. I wish I still had it.

Yep! I worked hard for that set! The blond kid's my little brother. Now gone. The other's my cousin from Ohio, now a pro bike dragracer. Maybe that explains my preference for pearl wraps. My current set....
