I don't know if the hats are causing this problem but since I don't know how you have everything configured, I will pose an observation.
When I look at my hi-hats stand, there is a set screw that controls the tilt of the bottom cymbal. Mine is about as close to me as possible. (You know, turning the riser tube to orient the screw so it is closest to me.)
If I use the adjustment screw to put a tilt on the bottom cymbal at all, it'll raise the edge closest to me. In doing so, when I bring the top cymbal down to the bottom one, the top edge "hides" the bottom cymbal edge and I don't get that bottom cymbal edge exposed which will eat up drum sticks faster than anything.
I hope this makes sense.

I've been using these specific sticks for a year now. ProMark actually recommended them to me. I have been extremely happy with these sticks. So here is what everyone might be missing. I didn't just randomly pick the sticks out of the box... I selected the same sticks I always do from the store. So I've never had a problem like this ever... These sticks obviously came from the same brick, the same batch, and broke the same way... there is a problem with the stick not my playing. Normally these oak sticks will hold up until they are a sliver and nothing more and then break. And not just break off the tip... they break in half.
Since those here don't know me. I've been playing for 27 years now. I actually have a Percussion Performance Degree from UW-Whitewater. I know what I'm doing, I teach for a living. . . I wouldn't just randomly post this because one day I decided to beat the hell out of my kit lol I love a flat cymbal which does eat sticks... that though doesn't break tips but it does cause the big gashes, but like I said, I've gashed these crazy sticks into slivers the size of chopsticks and still played. This was just a bad batch.
Luckily ProMark has responded and we are currently working out the situation. Their customer service is pretty amazing if you've never dealt with them.
On that note, don't mind if I close the thread before it gets ugly. Everyone's stated their opinion. Glad you could work it out Spaz!
