I play my kit now because I still enjoy it, and I've been doing it for so long it would seem strange it I stopped.

When I hear awesome drumming or awesome music in general it makes me want to play!

The sound and challenge of the instrument, playing good music with good friends/musicians, and the youthful exuberance that is still in my heart ...
Haven't got a clue.
After almost 58 years, I'm still trying to find out why I like to hit things with sticks.
I don't know. I enjoy it. I like going places and making friends. I like parties. So we make music and party.
Because when I play I feel better and this is why

Life's too short to play the same solo twice. Improvise!
For me, music and drums are the ultimate therapy. Doesn't matter what kind of day I've had, I can always re-set myself with good music and my drumset.
Well, that and a nice single-malt scotch.

One of these days, I'll actually impress one!
My brother (six years older) played for years before I could reach the pedals. Once I could, I started emulating him and he guided me to who I should be listening to etc. He was always very encouraging and gave me his drum set when he left for college, with the stipulation that I never quit. So I didn't.
He plays a little these days and tells me that my playing is what inspires him to fight for the time to play in his busy life.

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!
For me, it's about making music. It's the freedom of self expression, creativity and a huge release. I don't care much for playing by myself, playing along with a recording or copying a song beat-for-beat. It's all about being in the groove with others and partaking of that "collective consciousness".

Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!
"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham
Hi, I play because it is me.
If I couldn't drum or play anything else I would be a totally different person.
I actually can't imagine not doing it!

Due to religious discussion being a big no-no on the forum, I can't answer the primary reason why I play.
With that said, another reason that I play is I've always been drawn to drums for some weird reason. I'm a multi-instrumentalist (not that I'm great at any of them, but I just sort of get by with a lot of them). When people ask me which instrument has helped me the most and which translates from one instrument to the next best, I tell them drums (they always expect the answer to be piano or possibly guitar). The thing it has taught me most is about commitment. I'm so much more confident in playing piano or guitar due to playing drums.
Several reasons:
Distraction: I can "forget about life for a while".
Stress relief: I can take out my aggression, constructively.
Challenge: Always having something else to learn/master.

I can't remember what inspired me to play the drums. The need to play has been with me all my life, it seems.....
The music.............the composition..............the creativity.
I love the physical and mental input working together.
The power and the precision.
The complexity as well as the groove.
I really like the sound of the word "percussion".

Music is a true passion for me... my mom/dad said I was playing drums before I walked but pounding on anything I could. My dad has a band still to this day and I grew up on the back of the stage just watching and wanting to do nothing else but music.
I'm not a full time musician but music is my life, my love, my passion. I constantly just want to do more and get better.
I grew up on the poorest end of town with daily daydreams of owning my own
full drum kit. Not to mention a spot big enough in our house I could set them up.
I don't even ever recall daydreaming playing the drums but just owning a kit that
I could play whenever I wanted was my big dream.
So I guess now that I pulled it off you could say that has inspired me to play'em.
