Okay, okay so really Starphonic is better constructed, etc. should be better. but say your good at tuning and tweaking snares, have plenty of good batters for a nice snare can you think that a Starclassic could sound about as good?

Snare junkies that have Tama's any opinions on the two head to head (pun intended)?

    Playing experience?

I have a Starclassic set but a Rogers Dynasonic 80's and a so-so Ludwig plus a complete 1975 Imperial Star set with the wood snare. Thinking about a nice color matched snare that kicks butt.

I'm pretty sure I own or have owned most every flavor of TAMA snare drums that exist.

Don't shoot the messenger but I found that I prefer the sounds from my Mapex BP snares over everything except my TAMA Warlord Masai.

The DW Performance series snare I had also was an eye opener.

I agree with Bish.........Mapex BP snares are exceptional and a very good value. Needless to say the BB are in a league of their own.

I also have a Cherry Bomb which is nice...but the nature of the shell and size makes it limited to a very poppy, high pitch snappy sounding snare. I want something with range and tone that can take me from Miles Davis All Blue to John Bonham When the Levee Breaks (and maybe matches my cherry fade)

This BP SE might work. It's got more red tinge in it than the picture shows.

This BP I've owned longer than anything else in my current collection. Been at least 12 years.

Well going high end Bish I'd love one of those for sure. Of course you have quite the collection. Something like Tamadude.. who I've not heard from for sometime.

No decision yet and no rush. I'd like to keep the Starclassic all Tama and matched. But I'm not the "I bought this Camaro in green to match my favorite shirt" kinda guy. That's part of the reason I bought the old Rodgers Dynasonic. Gosh I loved my old one with my White Pearl Rodgers 360 set, sigh.

If I was playing with a band again I'd feel more justified (?) in looking at a Warlord or just a way better drummer and recording.

+1 on the Warlord Masai - I have one as well - the best snare I have ever played - and quite versatile as well.

So I see a seller drops their price on a new Starclassic Performer 5.5"x14 cherry fade to $231 from $290... tempting.

If you are asking me. It was light and easy to haul from a gigging point of view. It was a bit drier than I liked and when it came down to the Starphonic Brass or the Starphonic Aluminum to gig with, I found the brass a better overall choice for sound, presence and tonal abilities. (I had factory heads on both just for even playing field comparison reasons.)

I still have the Starphonic Brass but have since invested in a Ludwig Black Beauty and think I now have that dialed in to my expectations.

I'm looking for an Aluminum snare and love my Starphonic bubinga. Thought maybe that would be a great way to go and get another Starphonic. Love brass shells. I have a DW NOB Collectors. Poor mans BB. Thanks for the input.

There is a TAMA SLP black brass snare on sale for under 400 brand new if you like auctions. I think it's a BIN, though. It's been reduced about 50.00 and I'm thinking hard on it.
