RIP Frank.............thanks for being part of my journey
I will turn down a gig with anyone, any time.
I read something once that had about 4 tips for going somewhere in the music biz. One was along the lines of the quote above. Networking with people. Talking to everybody etc. That's one thing I have always been lacking. I just don't have those socal capabilities that so many seem to have.
I think the others were something like having undeniable talent, being a go getter and luck which the guy didn't totally believe in because a person will make their own luck if they do the other things in the list according to him.

I always remember reading an Earl Slick interview. Shortly after the David Bowie Serious Moonlight tour, he had to sell guitars so he could buy groceries.

Huh? What, like a sneaker deal? What "sponsorships" are out there handing cash to touring musicians? If you're talking endorsement deals, where musicians get discounts on gear for their endorsing a brand, try eating that when you've been out on the road for six weeks without any support. It's all about money. If the money is right almost all of us would uproot. How much is "right" is where we will differ.

I cohosted a radio show one time, and we interviewed a band that was sponsored by a certain rather famous taco chain. I had no idea, but this certain restaurant actually has its own currency, and the band is allotted a certain amount (it's probably quite a bit). I'm sure they ate it rather frequently.
Right about now, I'd go off on tour with a not famous artist!
all the best...
hahaha gotta love those Sponsors!
I might do, if I had to give up too much to do it, or I hated the artist, like if it was that Bieber nightmare!
Bieber nightmare? I bet his drummer makes some good $$$
all the best...
Only if I think I can play the material well, first of all. I won't take a gig with anyone, famous or not, if I think I'm gonna bring the band down. Like a Reggae gig or a swing gig would be right out Even if Bob Marley came back just to play one night with me, sorry. I'd look stupid and the music would suffer.
But, if it doesn't turn my life upside down, yea.
Now, am I way over the idea of ever making a living as a touring musician? Totally. I hate living out of a suitcase. I am too picky of an eater/shopper to survive on road food. I love my kids/pets too much to be gone for stretches of time. In the infallible 20/20 vision of hindsight, I'm glad I kept playing as a means of escape and creative outlet, not as an income.
All that being said, if Ian Anderson calls, I'm gone! (Or Geddy, Steven Wilson, Gilmore, Tony Levin, a few others. Ahhh, to dream.)
Proudly playing:
Doc Sweeney Drums
A bunch of snares
A bunch of cymbals
Off-Set double pedals
I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!
I'm an unemployed 20 year old. So my answer is hell no I wouldn't turn them down. I can't speak for the future though. If I'm retired at the age of 80 and they ask me, I'd probably turn them down!
Same here.
I don't really have an opinion on his music, I don't hate it or like it. But even music you don't normally listen to can be very fun to play when performing in front of a cheering crowd and you're being paid exceptionally well.

Simply put, yes I would.
It's him, not necessarily the style of music..
