Well if she's behind you it's a great choice. \m/
That's a great kit
(now I just need the funds to get it, but it'll come) After months and months of research, reviews, listening, etc I've finally settled on the set I want.
drum roll please...........(pun intended)
the Mapex Saturn IV Stuidoease in Red Blue Hybrid Sparkle with 22x20 bass drum....I'm mainly a metal player but like many different styles and this can accomodate those styles too easily.
Once the funds are there, it's on
even the wife is on board....

What an awesome finish! Just found this picture online of them:
Great choice. You'll enjoy those. Still the right choice even if you were to find your DW kit at a huge discount.
Wow those are beautiful, nice to have the wife on board,I got roll eyes when I wanted mine,or a new cymbal,or....

too bad i can't get it now, but luckily I'm a patient man...i've waited over 20 years of playing for a pro set I can wait a little longer. It'll be worth it.
Freaking awesome. Gorgeous finish too!
Well you have made a great choice. I love that finish.
yeah that sparkle is just gorgeous!
Lovely stock photo, wonder what the real life version looks like?

now a question for those who have Saturns.......are the stock heads satisfactory for a while or would it be a good idea to go ahead and get some new batter heads with it?
or batter and reso heads.
Mine came with Remo Emperor or Ambassador clear heads (can't remember). OK, just not what I like.
I replaced with Evans coated G2 over Evans EC Reso's and I get exactly the sound that I want.
Clear emperors for the win. Most people that change them go back.

We grow old because we stop playing."
"I wish that my playing reminded people of Steve Gadd. But they seem to confuse me with his little known cousin... E."
"Snare drums happen."
That's my favorite Saturn IV finish, hands down.
Mmm... Saturns.
You'll get yourself a very nice kit there! I have Saturn IV myself in the Cherry Mist Rosewood finish, very satisfied with them. I'm not too keen on that sparkle finish myself, but that's just personal opinion . The heads are quite good, allthough I changed mine to Evans EC2 clear, just slightly prefer that sound over the Emperors. But again, it's just personal preferance.
Pearl Masters BCX in Piano Black (birch), 22x18"x2/10x8"/12x9"/13x10"/14x14"/16x16"
Snares: 14x6" Tama Starphonic Bronze, 13x5" Mapex Black Panther DL Cherry Bomb
Paiste cymbals, Vic Firth sticks, Evans heads
Now you will have to decide if you want a NOS with the original bearing edges or the new Sonic Clear edges.
I think you will find that the REMOs are great sounding heads on those drums. No need to upgrade until they wear out. I currently have the factory batters on my floor toms and EVANS clear G-12 on my racks. If you get the new edges, the REMOs should tune up even easier than they do now.
Oh, and I would invest in a black backdrop to make your kit look exactly like the pic. The black background just makes those POP!
GORGEOUS looking drums!

I go to my local drum shop and purchase my sticks. I like to touch them before I buy them ;-)
