    Default Pearl Rock Bird?!

I have a shot at picking one of these kits up....
I can find no information whatsoever on these though.

Does anyone know anything at all about them?

    Thank you!!!

    Quick google search:
The Rock Bird kits have a fiberglass inner layer and were made and sold in Japan; not the US. At least that's what I found. The inner layer of fiberglass is supposed to enhance low end and add punch.
    Proudly playing:
    Doc Sweeney Drums
    A bunch of snares
    A bunch of cymbals

    Off-Set double pedals

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!

I had drum heads made of this woven material on my Rogers years ago. Can't recall what they were called but only wore one out ever. It never broke just got soft in the center and eventually stretched.

Consequently it would never tune. DOH.

I actually went to see the kit in person finally. Turns out they are not much different than exports, and had no fiberglass on the inside. After digging through old japanese catalogs I found that the Rock Bird is actually the Japanese markets version of the Forums or Exports of the time.

If the kit I saw looked anything like these photos I would have brought it home.

I'll bet Rock Bird might be a poor translation issue. It might mean something different in Japanese.

Interesting. I've seen maple/carbon fiber drums before, but never maple/fiber glass.
    Mmm... Saturns.

I know Pearl made the wood fiberglass shells since the early 70's. I've played a kit before and they were great. I've seen badges that had just fiberglass or wood-fiberglass. The pic Porkpieguy posted specifies maple fiberglass. The snare pictured with the supersensitive/parallel throw looks killer. That badge and hardware looks 80's to me. Still researching...Nice drums!

It probably means something like, Happy drum make you very happy.
    Stolen from EddieV:

I have friend with a set of the wood-fiberglass drums up in the rafters of his garage. They are an ugly white wrap that looks like they spent a lot of time in smokey clubs. They would probably clean up good enough though. Heard mixed reviews on their sound.

The inside of those shells looks like they are prepped and ready for a first layer of stucco.
