    Hey folks!

In my other thread, I mentioned that I received an extra wrap for my Super Mario kit, so I decided to try to breathe new life into another snare that I had. Here's what I started with: My 20-year-old, made-in-Japan Tama Rockstar steel shell snare (14" x 6.5").

It really is in great shape considering how much it's been used and its age.

Ok, so I stripped if of its hardware:

The only issues I had with stripping hardware was the vent grommet. I ended up having to drill it out; however, I didn't hurt the logo badge at all which was a miracle!

Here's a picture of the package I got in the mail with the wrap from Bum Wrap Drum Co.:

Ok, so I was really confident in the product with my Pearl let, but this was going to be the REAL challenge. My snare has these indentations that run around the entire drum. Granted, they are not raised, but there is an indention. I tried to get a pic of it here:

So, here was the million dollar question: Was the wrap good enough and thick enough to where I wouldn't need to put any sort of filler in troughs around the drum? I decided to throw caution to the wind and wrap it anyways, and believe it or not, I had GREAT results!

I went ahead with my stretching and clamping:

After I got it clamped and before I committed to the tape strip, I felt all along the shell, and I could NOT believe that I couldn't feel any gaps under the wrap! If I pushed down on the wrap, I could find them, but it wasn't noticeable at all, so I was good to go!

After sticking the tape down, I went ahead and started drilling holes through the wrap and attaching hardware::

I ended up having to expand the hole a little with a drill in order to get the new vent hole grommet to fit. I think that it turned out well! It's a little bit beefier than the original, but I think it looks pretty good:

After all of the hardware was installed, I put on a fresh set of heads (Evans Level 360 on the bottom and an Evans Genera Dry on the top) in addition to new snare strainers (Puresound). It really turned into a nice drum!

You make it look so easy. How does it affect the tone?

Very nice, l would not think to wrap a metal drum. let us know abut the sound. I would imagine it would lessen some overtones?

I have a snare drum very similar and wondered if one of those wraps would work on it! Very nice.

I don't feel as if it affected the tone too much. I put an Evans Genera Dry on it to kill the nasty ring. I've got it dialed in now. I've nicknamed it "Big Slappy" which is exactly how I wanted it to sound. Here are a couple pictures that I took of it at church this morning.

Our worship set was rather unexciting this past Sunday in terms of drum parts, but if you want to hear this snare, go here: http://mpbc.ws/media/

Click on 1-11-15. Like I said, it's not a terribly exciting set in terms of drums, but you can hear the snare if you would like.

Great playing Martin. That's quite the musical production going on plus nice video work by the church TV crew!

Darn these wraps are good; and looks reasonably easy too.

Drum wraps have spooked me a little in the past but since these threads of your re-wrap jobs have been posted I'm much more confident I could pull it off myself should I want to.

Thank you for the threads, they've been great.

I think it will work as long as the snare doesn't have any raised beads or ridges.

    Thanks!

Thanks Rich. We post our music every week, and we have the biggest production by far of any church around here. We are hoping to actually get lights that move soon! I don't think that I've ever played with more people on stage before (maybe once or twice). I really don't see how the choir stands to sing next to me. I'm pretty relaxed when I play, but I'm still loud.

    Thanks again!

I was sort of afraid of messing up too, but it's really not that bad. I was also apprehensive about using Bum Wrap too, but I did a side-by-side from my old wrap to the new, and the old wrap isn't that much thicker the stuff from Bum Wrap. Also if you mess it up, just mail it back to them and they'll send you another.

Wow..if you were closer, I'd go to church every Sunday
