Hey I am also a beginner. Say It Aint So by Weezer is a great one. Slow enough that you can read the music sheet yet challanging enough to get keep you at it. It´s easy and slow at first and then builds up. I´m still working on 3 parts!!! But love it

I'm with some of the others that mentioned Tom Petty. Breakdown is a good one. It's very simple but at the same time challenging to reign in the tempo of that song. Stan Lynch was perfect for all the early Petty stuff.

Red House for a beginner? Im lower intermediate and I can't play that 100%, and I'm quite comfortable playing swung patterns.

Anything by the White Stripes is going to be very good practice, the beats might be faster, but its mostly just quarter notes so in the end it's in a sense 'slower'.

Don't ignore technique tho, playing to songs is good, but that's only half the battle

Give me some lovin' - Spencer Davis. Its pretty fast (156 bpm?) but a very simple quarter note beat with no complicated fills - just like JZG said quarter note beats are only half the work so much easier to play faster.

    Dumb - Nirvana
    All Apologies - Nirvana
    The Reason - Hoobastank
    Helter Skelter - The Beatles
Have I told you lately - Van Morrison
    21 Guns - Green Day
Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day

For Whom the Bell Tolls - first song I learned. Really easy, the majority of the song is in quarter notes. The fills are pretty simple as well.

Put on something like Slayer - Reign in Blood and play along with that.. Then go back to AC/DC Back in Black.. All of a sudden it's not fast at all..

Seriously though, play faster songs and then drop back and you'll be surprised what you though fast was and how it's much easier to keep up with slower tunes. Best of luck! Nothing beats practice!

This time of year you can put on a Christmas music radio station and have a lot of things that you not only know but can play easily.
Life's too short to play the same solo twice. Improvise!
