I don't think it's very close to Istanbul but the Murat Diril factory is in Samsun. Murat has been very influential in the development in the Meinl Byzance series. He has started his own company. I own 2 of his cymbals and they are glorious. Here's the contact info I found:

I can't find it, but someone on another drum form went to the factory last year
and posted a video of his experience. Making a cymbal from start to finish.
“I did not trip and fall. I attacked the floor and I believe I am winning.”

thanks for the tips guys, you know, I do google these things, but time and time again i find the info from you is much better!

I had a look at the Murat Diril site before, cool cymbals, but unfortunately they don't make anything in the size and type i'm looking for, so i'll keep that as a back up for now

    Any other tips?

I can't find the link I saw a few months ago, but the gentleman on the video visited one of the Turkish factories and they made him a couple of custom cymbals during his visit. If I remember correctly, he was even allowed to do some of the hammering. I'll keep looking for the link.

So, is this also the factory where the Byzance line is actually made? Or does Meinl have their own factory? Can't remember.

Anatolian cymbals has their contact address in Istanbul proper it seems, their website is kinda garbage, and their much better Czech site only has contact for here...the things we do for love!

Nope. When Murat went on his own, he moved to the current location. Not sure where the Meinls are made.

    From Meinl:
"The warm darkness of traditional hand hammered cymbals is re-imagined with Byzance. Each range is hand crafted by MEINL artisans at our foundry in Turkey, then given sound-enhancing final touches by our craftsmen in Germany."
