Default Concert snare in regular application?

Has anyone used a concert/symphonic snare as part of their drum kit in general applications, rock, jazz, funk, etc. Pearl makes a philharmonic snare 7 x 14 with a trick triple snare throw off. Yes 3 combinations of wires. You can use any one, two, or all three at once. Would this drum be suitable?

Heck yeah. Why not? Myself, I'd probably lean toward Ludwig but that's just me.

    all the best...

I got a chance to play a philharmonic with the fancy snares on a concert band type gig, and that thing was great. I can't imagine using it in a rock setting tuned tuned the way it was, but different head, different tuning, it could be great.

I played a yamaha concert a few days ago. I think it was too quiet for a normal application.

    They are awesome for drumset.

I have one (6.5" maple solid shell) that I use for concert work where I use the factory configured snares.

I can change out the snares to a second snappy set (two total) and one set of the thinnest cable snares in a couple of minutes. Sounds great. The bit of cable snares make for a bit more 'bite'.

The downside is that the individual snares are really expensive, especially for experimentation.

I have no idea why they don't market it also as a drum set snare with more drumset-oriented snare options.

I checked out a brass Majestic brass snare drum the other day. It blew my mind with its clean sound and precision response. I still have no playing experience with it. Would love to hear from any of you who use one on a kit. I'm a lifelong bebop drummer.

I was using my 5.5x14 copper concert Yamaha with the last group I was playing with Damage Poets

It took a little getting use to but once dialed in it was fantastic.

Used a clear batter on it. It's still on it I'm just not playing right now. The drum is a powerhouse

add on: great at all volumes ... very sensitive very versatile
