Default Fixing old SKB Hardware Case

So now that I'm back to a rack my current hardware case just isn't working. It isn't long enough to put all the rack bars in. So I busted out my old SKB case from my giant Yamaha Maple Monster kit I used when traveling for my gibraltar rack. Only problem is the latches were broken and I remember hating the handles. So I went to the hardware store and fixed the issue...

So here is the case and broken latches... 2 of the 3 arecompletely broken so it won't stay shut

this latch the top even snapped off...

First thing I did was removed all the old latches. They were luckily just screws

Replaced them with quick release latches that you can lock

Laid out the new parts and marked the holes with a punch to drill out

    bolted in the top part

moved the good working latch to the middle and added the bottom part of the latches

    Then addressed the handle issue

    1) it's a weak handle
    2) it can fold all the way crushing your hand if not paying attention
    3) only a handle on top.. none on bottom incase lifting up or down stairs

    Here is the handle

Here is the new one with a built in stop at the half way point

So I drilled out the rivets and marked up the holes and bolted down new handles

Nice job. But I do think SKB has a lifetime warranty on their products.

yeah I thought of that too. I might still write them about the latches if they still carry them and they can send me them I might swap back to them. As far as the handles though this is just a cheap upgrade only ran me $6 and the latches were $3. Less hassle then going through warranty stuff.

I know a guy on a bass forum I'm on ran into trouble b/c they rack he had they don't make any more. They sent him the updated version no questions asked but he wasn't happy that it was drastically different than his original.

SKB does in fact have them @ http://store.skbcases.com. They also have the wheels as well. But sadly they do not have rack case covers which is what I need.....lol
