At first I thought it was probably bogus - after a trawl, apparently there was a solid Maple shell DW Craviotto/Craviotto DW snare for sale - the pic I saw had the same badges but round DW lugs. The pic is in the Hazelshould Museum site - but it has lots of sales poop so I haven't linked it.

Right, I saw those as well after having a look around the good 'ol interwebs. This one however.... the lugs look wrong and the shell looks like cheap maple.

Had another look around and found a pic of a DW/Craviotto popcorn snare - 6 lugger that looks exactly like that one.. So it probably is genuine.. I bet its not cheap.

    Very classy looking snare drum.
Much prefer the tube lugs over the DW lugs.

+1 on the tube lugs. Never been a fan of round lugs, especially big ones.

Didn't Craviotto work at dw for a while before going on his own? I believe I've heard mention of "Craviotto dw snares" pretty often.

    What is "cheap maple"?
Maple is not the most expensive exotic wood out there. But it is used in drums so much because it works really well. I don't think you can pedigree a tree to grow into a wealthy maple.
I think before Craviotto ventured into a complete solo enterprise he was partnered up with DW.

Craviotto was partnered with the drummer from Huey Lewis and made solid shelled drums for Select drums in the 80's and also did drumsets on the side.

He also OEM'd for DW before striking out on his own.

I saw one of his early drumsets for sale at Union Grove music in Santa Cruz.
I think it's still there ,they want about $3k for it.

I had one of these - it was a 14x5.5 dw/Craviotto solid shell maple snare drum I ordered from a local drum shop. I ordered mine back in 2001/2002 when Craviotto teamed up with dw before he went and did his solo career that is now Craviotto Drums. Mine had the exact badges and the maple shell wasn't highly figured at all - it looked much like this one. It was signed by JC on the inside and had re-rings. I ended up selling that drum back in 2006 I believe. Back then I wasn't much into having a 'collection' of snares as I am today. I had 2 main snares - and enjoyed how the other sounded more so I sold the dw/Crav. Looking back I sort of regret it and wonder how my ears would react to that drum now...

Let me rephrase. I guess when I said "cheap maple", I meant it doesn't look like the best part of the maple wood. I've seen a lot prettier maple snares.
