    Default epic tunes, epic similarities

I've noticed some epic tunes have this marching type of beat in them.
I wonder if there's a particular name for it? Can you think of some?

The pattern is very similar to Ravel's Bollero, but adapted for a 4/4 pattern instead of the 3/4 of the classical piece.

I'm not even trying to go there. It started because we were playing the tune Lady by Styx and I was transported to Stranglehold by Ted Nugent or visa versa, not sure.

In the case of the blacksabbath outro I would imagine that the riff and the drum part came about as Bill Ward was playing triple Ratamacues..it's like right hand drag.Left hand drag.RATAMACUE lol..

I haven't listened to all the clips still just waking up but I'm leaning to all these parts are probably based off military drum rudiments and that's why they sound similar to each other and why it's easy to segue from one song into another completely different song.

Interesting...never really noticed but definitely rings true when you hear them together. I was thinking Achilles Last Stand when I saw the first post. In my humble opinion, Achilles is the best out of all of them.

    Bolero

The bolero is a 3/4 dance that originated in Spain in the late 18th century, a combination of the contradanza and the sevillana. A dancer named Sebastiano Carezo is credited with inventing the dance in 1780. It is danced by either a soloist or a couple. It is in a moderately slow tempo and is performed to music which is sung and accompanied by castanets and guitars with lyrics of five to seven syllables in each of four lines per verse. It is in triple time and usually has a triplet on the second beat of each bar.

Essentially the same song sans lyrics. Don't know if it's really a marching type beat.
Ok, I see where you're going with this Mark.
I was hoping to keep it in the same vein as the first three posts but can see how this does go with the thread "title"

ps: thanks drummer for blocking Marks YT posts..lol (only kidding Mark)

The same main drum beats in Led Zep - Immigrant song, and Rush - What you're doing.

Not the marching beat, but I figured I post a pretty cool similarity.

Hi, Thanks wired. Yes not sure if it was military but seems to be leaning toward the latin bolero.

listen to the similarity to this and the sabbath outro.. maybe not at full speed lol. either way rudiments are just cool man.

My buddy used to play out of Haskel Harr books and we would get so into it these little snare drum solos. those books and the Ted Reed syncopation book.

Yar I listen to it again and it's not exactly like the sabbath outro maybe the Bolero was the basis for a lot of these patterns.. but I've no doubt that a lot of drum parts from all sorts of songs are indeed based off of drum rudiments.

I've always felt bands like Metallica on things off of the "Master of puppet's album were similar to drum rudiment patterns as well.
The ol Dun,Dun,DaDa,Dun on the low E string stuff sounds like it's straight out of Ted Reed's syncopation book. Heck they inspired whole genres of metal off this.

Every since that album came out,It's influence is still very much alive today. If anything it's used too much to be honest. Why I feel a lot of today's metal bands sounds so much alike.
