Very nice G, where did you find it hiding out?! 1965, a piece of legendary Ludwig snare history.
just curious, do you ever get mistaken for Brad Pitt?
Found an excuse to pick up another snare. Always wanted a Ludwig Jazz Festival for the warm, open sound the mahogany/poplar/mahogany 3-ply shell with big rounded-over bearing edges produces. Fantastic sensitivity from the thin shell. Serial number dates it to 1965.
Got it in pretty dirty condition and cleaned it up over the last couple of days. Everything is in very good condition, just really dirty and the nickel plated lugs and hoops were tarnished. Disassembled it, polished the hardware, cleaned the Black Diamond Pearl wrap, and it turned out beautiful. It's 100% original but I changed out the heads so I could play it without worrying about ruining the 50 year old original heads.
Played for an hour this afternoon and it sounds fantastic - just how a Jazz Fest is supposed to sound. I'm in love. The tone and sounds I can get out of it, depth of the finish, the luster of the nickel hardware. Yeah, I'll keep this one.

Beautiful find congrats! I love my Jazz Festival (Legacy - maple / poplar / maple). I bet that mahogany version you have sounds sweet! Real nice job cleaning up the snare - it looks incredible. I'm a big fan of those classic, bow-tie lugs.
wow now that is beautiful! Lucky man right there. Nice work cleaning it up
Thanks guys. I'm pretty pleased with this one.
Patience watching e-bay. Been trying to get a decent deal for months. Found exactly what I was looking for; a structurally sound drum that was dirty and neglected enough to keep the price down, but nice enough to clean up well. No rust, almost no pitting and the wrap, underneath the dust and dirt, turned out to be amazing. Can you tell I'm a little jazzed about it?
Yeah, I get that a lot.

Very nice.
Mmm... Saturns.
Beautiful snare. Jazz Festivals of that vintage are reputed to be incredible sounding snare drums ... enjoy ...
Very very nice!! I have been looking for a BDP to match my kit for a while now. While the one you scored is a '65, I really want a '64 (COB hoops). I saw that one on eBay and was gonna bid, but ended up blowing my squirrel fund on a '78 6.5x14 acrolite w/imperial lugs.

Very classy snare G!
Thank you gentlemen. It's been a few weeks and I'm still severely pumped about sitting in front of it at the end of a long day.
