Has anyone used the Remo Ebony Emperors? (And if so what did you use for resonant heads?)
I currently have Evans Onyx tom heads and they sound great but I'm considering trying the ebony emperors.
I am playing a PDP EZ Series
(Does anyone know what kind of wood these are??),
12/13/16 w/ Sabian B8X cymbals.
Snare is a Ludwig Acrolite 14 x 5.
Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification
Emps over Emps might lead to limited tonal tuning options. Usually i'll slap a lighter weight on bottom. If you need to have an ebony on bottom maybe try to find one that's lighter than the Emp. I'm pretty sure they make ebonys in Ambassador and Emperor.

Yeah I was planning on putting clear ambassadors on the bottoms.
I'm think I'm gonna go with the controlled sound on my snare and emperors on my toms.
sounds good. the diplomat line is even a little lighter weight.

I run the ebony emps over ambassadors. They sound great. On my ludwig I have the black suede emps and I love them
If I may play Debbie Downer for a moment (what else is new?), have you looked at any of the black batter heads after they are played for a while? I'm assuming that you want to use the black heads because of the appearance, but, man, those heads look horrible after just a short bit of use. Don't let me stop you from using them if you like them, but can anybody offer any rationale to buying good looking heads that look like country-road stop signs after a few hard gigs?

These are my black suede emperors after 4 months, i practice 2-4 hours a night 5-6 times a week....
Not really sure whats wrong with the finish .... to me they still look new...
P.S. REALLY hating the cymbals though...
P.P.S. i have never tried Ebony emps.. but the black suedes supposedly are black all through. not just a coating. so you can beat them to death and they stay black... (and omg the urge to make a joke that would get me banned, used your imaginations instead...)..

I have no experience with the Black Suede Emperors, but from the pics you guys posted, they look like the way to go if you really want black heads. I've used only the Ebony Ambassadors - one time - and they were visually done within just a few gigs. Thanks for filling me in.

Ahh.. thanks late, i didnt know about the ebonys at all... yeah that would make me nuts. pretty happy with the suedes though..
I love my black suedes---just don't use nylon tips!
I discovered the nylon tip thing when a friend of mine was playing my kit one night---my heads ended up looking like Sulu went to warp speed---nylon tips are now banned from my studio
