I would try promark shira kashi oak 5bs. The wood tips are oval, and they are a lot more durable than the hickory tips.
Hi,
I've been using Vic Firth Steve Gadds [commercial link removed. Please see forum rules - Tom]
Basically, there are 5b, I like how they are light but also rather big for the weight. The problem is the tips break really easily. I'd prefer to use wood tips, so nylon is out.
I play rock-blues, otherwise, I hope a few of you are willing to share some suggestins

Istanbul 8" Splash (pre 1997)
Mapex Black Panther Steel Piccolo

I like the sound of wood tips much better but I do notice wood tips chip and break much quicker than nylon which is why I practice with nylon tips and gig with wood tips.
I use mostly Zildjian super 5b natural wood sticks as they seem to last longer than other sticks I have used including oaks but honestly I am not that picky about sticks. (maybe I should be)

thanks for the suggestions, however, I'd like something a bitmore like the Gadds...I also practice with nylons, could this be a technique issue? I don't leave dents in my heads so I don't think it's cause im playing too hard.
I'd prefer something lighter if possible...however, i understand if that;s not in the cards...

Lot's of suggestions can be offered but only you can choose the stick that makes it for you. I've drummed for several decades and have never been loyal or absolutely gaga over any stick. I don't even know the difference between a 2b and a 7a. All I know is I like a stick or I don't.
all the best...
