You'd have been Foolish not to.
Beautiful.
Congrats, man!!
Ok, so here's the story...
We (the band) have gotten so busy that I was looking to buy a beater kit to leave in my drum room at the house. It gets old setting up, tearing down, blah blah blah, every single week. The plan was to leave my Tama Imperialstars set up at the band barn, and leave my Gretsch Renown Maples packed up for gigging, and then have a used starter kit to practice on at the house.
Well, it didn't go quite like I planned. Back up a few years and I remember someone posting a Tama Silverstar kit in satin cherry burst here on DC. The kit was drop-dead-gorgeous and I put it on my 'list'.
So, I'm scouring craigslist and looking around for this 'beater' kit to bring home when I walked into a local music store and see the exact kit that has been on my 'list' for a few years...at an unbelievable price. This kit is in absolute perfect condition. The factory heads were barely played on at all.
Now it's here at the house, outfitted with brand new heads, and going to my gig with me tomorrow..
Here a few pics to prove that it in fact, did, happen...

That kit is too cool!
Beautiful kit. The dark brown/red/black satin burst finishes are my favorite. I like the Gretsch Satin Deep Cherry Burst. Doesn't the kit in your video have the same finish?
BTW- nice to see green grass again in Texas...

"Too many crappy used drum stuff to list"
Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!
"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham
That's a very beautiful piece of art. The reso looks fantastic.
Thanks everyone! And yes, it's the same color but slightly different. The Gretsch is a gloss finish,, whereas the Tama is a satin.
I must say, this kit tuned up very quick (10X easier to tune than the Renowns, for me anyway) and I'm already in love with the sound. Considering the price I paid for it, it seriously makes me question why I bought the Renown kit for as much as I did. And now my wheels are turning again...sell the Gretsch, hunt for another deal like this one, and have money left over for new brass, hardware, etc? Hmmmm......
Thanks for all the comments. Can't wait to gig it tonight. We are playing in a very well know venue in South Texas. All the bands we follow, cover, etc play at this place. We are actually opening for one of them. Gonna be fun!

Congrats thats a Nice looking kit, I would recommend waiting a few months before selling the renowns to make sure you still feel that way and wont regret selling them. It is nice to have a few different kits with different sounds rather than multiple kits that sound the same. IMO anyway.

Decide whether this is love for the craft or simply an ego thing
http://www.redskymary.com/ NOT MY BAND, JUST A GREAT LOCAL BAND WHO SHOULD BE SOOO MUCH BIGGER IMO
See, now that's what I'm talking about. The more kits you experience the more you see what is what and you can then justify how you spend your money. I think that's why I tried two Renowns, three Saturns and finally ended up with my 2nd TAMA BB's (amongst every other kit I tried out) as my kit of choice. After trying all the brands, the tone of the BB shells stuck in my head.

Great plan. That's what I did. Those look tremendous. Very classy.
that color is gorgeous! Wish it was a virgin bass drum though since you offset the toms. Time to make a custom cover for the BD
Love the classic front head with your logo on it.
What a beautiful kit man!
Tex :
Congrats on a good purchase.
I've seen that finish here in the local GC and, yes, it is eye-catching.
Questions...................
Who did your reso design and how much did a full sticker change your sound ?
(I'm currently looking at all the options of reso design).............thanks.

Beautiful kit Tex...................love the color
Very nice. That finish looks great in satin.
Mmm... Saturns.
Thanks again everyone. I truly appreciate everyone's comments.

Thanks Ricardo! The band logo was done by a local marketing company; I think out of San Antonio. If you need the specific company name, I'll be glad to hunt it down. And, I personally can't tell any difference in the sound. However, I'm not sure if you can tell, but the sticker is JUST the black part - it's not a full sheet-type sticker. Hope that makes sense.
