Sadly it's been almost 20 years since I was in a band. I'd love to be in one but my responsibilities lay in being a husband & father.

My daughter is starting her own band and was holding auditions the other day for bassists. Next will be drums. She asked me to sit in on the drums to audition the bassists. I knew the 2 girls she had on guitar from before so we had a lot of fun.

It was so cool to see these kids going for it. I was so proud.

    Yea it's Christmas time ya'll !

So here we are sporting Santa suits . Every year they have a Christmas Carol sing along at the University of Arizona Main Gate Square . People dress like Santa or whatever and we come together and sing carols . Great fun ! Then we play and we all dance . Will be doing it again this Saturday night .

    Soooo.....
Why not just play in the band with your daughter? That qualifies as being a good father. AND, improving the family relationship also helps on the husband front.

"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham

Nice idea! How would the daughter feel about the "old man" in the band? lol

If any of you haven't seen the movie "The Rocker", go see it now!!

It's a comedy with a very similar basis to that--Rainn Wilson (Dwight from the office) is a drummer who kind of gave up for years on drumming and then gets back into it with his nephew's band when they need a drummer for a gig.

    Movie is hilarious!

I have too many of these photos from over the years, some of them are pretty horrible.

Nonetheless, promo photos are a necessary evil.

These are the latest for the Hellin Back Band.

This is the typical staged shot.

    And our "table shot"...

Well seasoned musicians from the looks of it. Great stage shot! Who's the youngster? Is he the lead singer?

These are great photos everyone. It's great to put some faces with names, err screen names. Keep them coming.

I don't, but I might soon. I've played behind a few at various venues and the band really likes it - less stage noise for them. Our sound person does too - easier for her to get us mixed the way she wants. They don't really bother me so I'm not opposed to it.

Hey Zack, Where did your singer come up with the idea for his star/lightning bolt tattoo? I really dig it and would like to get one just like it.
    Thanks in advance.

They're great kids! (Missing 3 in this picture). All 5th graders.

Yes...the sure are! Incredibly fulfilling . . . yet difficult work.

It's funny....I've played probably close to 6-7,000 gigs in my life and don't get nervous. But when I have a "show" with my kids.....I can't sleep for 3 days before and get wound up like the inside of a baseball.

Same with me, probably because I'm nervous for them ... what joy!
