I have an exercise I love. It helps build short hand speed all the way to building strength and endurance.

    With each hand separate first.
Do two 8th notes followed by four 16th notes.
    1 & 2E&A3 & 4E&A

    Then double that
so four 8th notes followed by eight 16th notes.
    1 & 2 & 3e&a4e&a

Then do a full measure of each
eight 8th notes and sixteen 16th notes
    1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1E&A2E&A3E&A4E&A

Now you should practice this with each hand separately for a minute straight.

Then try the same patterns with hands together.

Spaz, have you been hanging out with jg?

Single and double stroke rolls with some paradiddles thrown in done on a folded pillow and you will notice a increase in speed within a month.

Chambers and Ms Caplette have both mentioned pillows.

Yeah with short to long it emphasizes quick burst of speed and the long helps build muscle strength and endurance.

I've never done the pillow beatings. But I also use a bigger snare stick when focusing on things cause then my normal sticks feel like playing on clouds lol

How do I get this jello off of the ceilings, walls, floor, and it's in my hair?

You're supposed to hit the jello before you make it, not after.

An old warm up exercise I use to do, also good for hand speed, endurance etc., was play 8s with RH: RRRR, 8s with LH: LLLL and then play 16s LH lead, and then play doubles LH lead, and then 8s LLLL, then RRRR, then 16s, doubles etc.

So, RRRR LLLL LRLRLRLRLRLRLRLR LLRRLLRRLLRRLLRR, LLLL RRRR RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL RRLLRRLLRRLLRRLL then revolves.

This was really good to warm up and push your boundaries.

Here is a video if I didn't explain well enough!
