Advice for Purchasing first drum set?

My first kit was this real beat up Tama swingstar, it had vomit in the kick, piss stains, missing lugs and rods, rims were rusted, cymbals had massive amounts of dust, discoloration, etc.. The whole thing was pretty nasty but I put some work into it, cleaned it up a bit with a good restore - looked good and sounded much better. And eventually I did upgrade, but i'll always treasure that "first kit" experience

Nothing creates lasting memories like a drum kit covered in someone else's' bodily fluids!
