    Default Big Gig This Saturday

Since playing a great gig at a great place is a form of "Finding Happiness", I post this thread here...............

We return to the best club in town this Saturday to play their Valentine party gig.
This club provides a "happy hour" band at 5:30 and the main stage act at 9pm.
They ask us to play one extended set from 9 until 11PM and then the DJ takes over until 2AM.
I have designed a two-hour set that starts on "GO" and ends on "GO".
    Should be exhausting.
We are hoping for a huge night so they will book us for multiple nights in the months to come.
Below is a photo from the loft during our first gig there...............

If you max-pack this place, your crowd is 750.

    Absolutely...................they wouldn't miss it !
Friday eve is devoted to a good cleaning and making sure we are all still in perfect form.
Load in at 3pm Saturday afternoon followed by sound-check.
We know the sound guy at the club and he is excellent (and so is the PA).
7000 watts on the subs -- he makes the old bass drum lovely.

That's awesome! Looks like a cool venue....and big! We play in TOWNS that aren't even 1/4th that big (750 people), LOL. The only way to get 750 people in one place around here is to have (A) free beer or (B) a football game. The place we're playing on Saturday holds about 60 people....as long as no one decides to scratch their back or has to use the restroom. We'll set up early as well, since last year we showed up 90min before show time and there were people standing up against the doors and standing around on stage. It was like trying to set equipment up in the middle of Times Square on New Years Eve.

That's awesome bud congratulations. If I was close I would come check it out. Let us know how it goes. 2hr set sounds long but if the place is packed and people are dancing it will seem to end too soon. Good luck and have fun.

As long as you have an appreciative crowd, then the gig is always fun, right ?
This place holds 750 but it is constructed on two levels. If you have 300 on the bottom level, it still looks like a full house.

Dirty White Boy with a female lead? Interesting. In my old band, we had a female singer sing "Take it Easy" by the Eagles:

"Well, I'm running down the road
    tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind,
    Four that wanna own me,
    Two that wanna stone me,
One says she's a friend of mine"

Like when my brother sings Angel From Montgomery, LOL.
"I am an old woman, named after my mother"
"My old man is another, child that's grown old"
"When I was a young girl, I had me a cowboy"

I tell him it could be worse; he could be singing the female part on In Spite of Ourselves. If you're familiar with John Prine, you'll understand

    No.
I'm the only one out of five that doesn't provide vocals.
The other four players are all very capable of singing a lead part........and they all do that during the set.
The bass player is actually the strongest vocal in the band and sings lead on 25% of our songs.
I would estimate the female sings lead on 60% of that set list.
They are also very good at 3 and 4-part harmony.
I'm blessed to be in a group that can handle all sorts of vocal arrangements.

That's awesome. Especially since they can and are willing to share the lead vocal parts. Saves everyone's voice and it sounds like there are no egos in the band. I would love to see y'all play someday.

Brian, the towns are bigger and have more people than you think. It's just that the wheat gets in the way and the tornados have relocated some people to Kansas.

Ahh. That's good to hear! I was afraid our band was causing them to leave town! Next time we play, I'll hire the local MC to set up road blocks around the town, LOL. Maybe change our name to "topless waitresses".
