Hi there, I just aquired a Yamaha beech ansolute marine pearl..
I have Evans clear heads on the toms, what's recommended? I'm a rock, ska kinda guy?

Also I just purchased a tama deep black magic snare 14x10 it came w a single ply Evans, what's my best head for my needs?
    Chris thank you tons!!

Welcome to the forum. You specify if those heads are single or double plies.
I myself use clear heads on my maple kit.
The most popular heads no matter if they are Remo or Evans combinations have always been 2ply/single. Some prefer the coated heads and some don't.
I am a Evans fan and have tried most of them and came up with the combination for my maple toms
Clear EC2's/EC resos on all my toms.
EC with reverse dot/ hazy 300 on my snare.
These heads give me the open but still warm sound that I love. I always play classic rock and these heads do it for me.
I guess experimenting with different heads and tunes will make your drums sound the way you want them too. Good luck

14x10 or you mean 14x8? I didn't know they made a 10" deep black magic?

    Spaz..................

After reading this OP, I couldn't believe that Tama and Ludwig both had a snare called Black Magic.
    Well, actually they don't !

Ludwig has a snare called Black Magic (as we all know).
In the context of Tama, Black Magic is a wrap finish.

For toms I'd go for either Evans G2 with G1 reso heads, or Remo Emperors over Ambassador reso. Either combination sound good to me.

That is exactly what I said 2ply/single ply in clear or coated.

Then we have similar preferences for tom heads then Gilles! I speed read the post and missed some of the content of yours (I also mean to add the comment clear or coated to my post but I forgot!)

Oh crap I read black magic and my mind immediately went to Ludwig. Didn't even notice Tama... second time reading I caught that. Crazy how the mind works.
