Default Pearl Drummers? - How many in this forum

How many Pearl drummers are there in here? I'm a Pearl fan and have two kits. Are Pearl Drums still the most popular for drummers on the scene or is DW in the lead now?

    My loyalty lies with Pearl

My Pearl ELX Export Fusion set is simply amazing, Pearl is the greatest!!

The Forum series are their low end drums, so they are nothing amazing, but for their high end stuff and especially their custom kits, they can't be beat.

I play a Pearl ELX 8 piece and I absolutely love it! I am thinking about buying another kit so I can keep my Pearls setup at home and not have to tear them down and haul them around all the time. I really do like some of the DW kits, but I am a working guy and they are way out of my price range.

Pearl are very tempting but once you get into the big custom made markets, your choices broaden so much. Pearl are very good, but up at the top? They have a lot of competition, DW for starters, then lots of small individual custom made companies. For mid range though, I'd say they're all very safe to begin with. I know that the Export was the benchmark I tested all the kits I was trying against, and I ended up choosing my Mapex after prefering the sonic qualities to that of the Export. But I still love Pearl...

I play a Tama now, but only because I saw a good deal that I couldn't pass up. My first love is with pearl though. In high school we used all pearl marching gear, and the lead singer of the band I played with in NC had an export from a few years back, excellent drumset. In the future, if and when I get another acoustic kit, it'll be a pearl. Probably not entry level like export though.

I am not a fan of their drums. The higher end shells are nice, but in my opinion, the quality of anything they make out of metal is garbage.
For the price of the higher end stuff, I would much rather have something made in America, by an American company.

I have broken more Pearl crap than I care to think about.

If Im going to Spend high dollars on a kit... and its NOT going to be Ameican made, Im going with Sonor. By far the best hardware and engineering I have ever seen.

Well if I was going to buy a high end kit it would come down to: DW Custom, Pearl Masterworks or the Sonor SQ2 series. Three best custom drum lines in the world currently.

I have a Pearl vintage kit but still love my DW's. As far as custom CUSTOM drums go......I'm looking to get another kit with specs that DW won't/can't do. Blessings.......

i love my pearls. mine is a prestiege custom mlx (same as one of drummers kits), wich was the pre masters top of the line series. the shells are the same as todays masters... 6 ply all maple. these drums are over 15 years old and they have seen over 200 gigs since i bought them 3 years ago and hundreds more by the previous owner. they are as strong and beautiful as ever. i could never EVER say anything bad about pearls build quality. i also use all pearl stands on a pearl rack. the 2000 series hardware is the most versitile and reliable stuff i've ever used. i have broken an 800 series boom but thats it. about the only thing i dont like from pearl is thier kick and hat pedals. for that i use dw5000. in short pearl makes some excelent products. i would put a masters or reference kit up against tama starclassic or dw collectors any day.

and oh yeah, to shazane...the export and forum are the same drumset with the exception that exports come in painted finishes and have suspended toms. same shells, rims and shell hardware used in both.

Actually the one I have (which was discontinued for this reason) is much higher quality than the normal export sets.

I have a rockstar, but if you're going to buy Tama, go with something a bit more high-end. I'm happy with mine, but they are an entry level set. It sounds like you're past the point of playing entry level jbuzz.

Pearl drums are amazing instruments - if they were good enough for the likes of Art Blakey and at one time Roy Haynes, they are good enough for me. My first kit, the one I still play today is an MX series kit - unbelievable drums - and just as good as any on the market today.

The rehearsal studio that my trio uses has a Pearl kit as well and they sound GREAT. Pearl is one of the leading manufacturers in the world of top of the line drums.

    Cheers,
    Byrne

I have quite a few ideas as far as what finish( I have a tri color swirl with color matching rims/hardware that I kinda made up....I've never seen such a thing....only fades and bursts), sizes, and other custom options etc..I want. If and when I find another signed band to be a part of, I'm looking to see about an endorsement. There's a few custom companies here in LA I'm looking at submitting to. I have plenty of friends that are/have been endorsers that are not in signed bands, but I just want to up my chances. I don't want to sound weird but, I'll tell you all once I have this kit made hehe. Blessings........
