Default Snare wires creating weird buzz around perimeter of head

I have a problem with my snare drum. I had this same problem on another cheap snare drum which is a westbury drum.

I recently got this new Tama G Walnut snare drum which I would expect a good sound out of, but I just get this weird sound when I tighten the snares to my liking, especially when I do rimshots and tap/hit around the center of the head.

I'm trying to get a tight snare sound for some rock/metal. I understand that you can't get a snare drum to sound like something in a recording.

This is the first video of my problem, hopefully this will clear up things.

    This is the second video:

I made sure that the wires are in the middle, and arent pulling to one side. When the wires are fully loosened (in video number two) it kind of looks like the snare wires arent spaced evenly, it looked like this when I bought it. Same for the stock tama snare wires that came with the drum.

When I tighten the reso head to 3 full rotations for each lug, there is very very little space left for the snare straps to go through the reso hoop. Keep in mind this is a 10 lug drum.

I also posted my issue on drummerworld, but with all the advice I was given, I couldn't fix the problem.

Is it possibly because of the kind of sound I want? I want to get something that still has the snare wire sound, but after hitting it the snares don't buzz a little bit after.

This is the drum I own, I would like to achieve the same sound as the one in the medium tuning, which is at around 2:02

    Yeah that happens.
It takes tweaking the tension of both heads until that whine goes away.
But if you want to hear it in a recording listen to the buzzy, rattly, whiny (but nonetheless chunky) snare sound on Bad Company:

Now, Bad Company (the band) is well known for low production vs high feel, so no surprise, but just so you know, it's not unheard of.

As I said, you need to tweak both heads until you get rid of that secondary harmonic that's causing the after-buzz.

Snare head looks okay. Tight but not silly.
Sounds like the guy in the Tama vid has his snares pretty tight.

I say, play on and tweak as you go, until it hits that magic spot.

A quick fix is to stick a business card or something similar between the wires and snare head then close the snare strainer on it. Will get the sound you want but ya know with a card?

Other than that it is a constant battle I have with some snare drums and not others. My beech snare or my Hybrid absolute never have this problem but my saturn, stage custom birch, and Gretsch Cat. maple all have this problem in varying degrees.

Another thing to try is the puresound equalizer series 16 strand. has 8 wires on each side and none in the middle.. I love them on ringy/buzzy snares.

Decide whether this is love for the craft or simply an ego thing
