right now im using a sm57 on both the top and the bottom and it works, but would like to hear from some of you guys see what experiences everyone has had.
was thinking a supercardioid might be a better option like a beta 57a or just use a small diaphragm condenser to make it crispy
I use an i5 top and i5 bottom I have used the sm57 and they both seem very similar ( and good sounding) to my ears in my recording environment. I like your idea about a small diaphragm condenser. It could possibly pick up the ghost notes and nuances a little more but I suspect it would depend on the environment you are in.

My old sound guy used an SM57 on bottom when we played big important shows.
so the small condenser made it far to crispy
so might end up trying a super cardioid like a beta 57 or a sennheiser
I use a Shure SM57 on both the top & bottom of the snare. Works for me.
I5 on top and D1 on bottom. If I had mt dream bottom mic it would be a 441
i would have a 441 on everything if i could afford them
