    Default "The PhDoozies"

At least that's what we called ourselves Friday evening. The "Ph" stands for the Palmer House Cafe, in Rensselaerville, NY. They featured a Cajun buffet, outdoors under the tent, with live music from our unlikely quartet of accordion, tuba, drums and percussion.

Greg, the accordion player, bought a house in New Orleans three years ago, and that's where he spends most of the year. But he comes back to NYS in the summers, books some gigs, and rounds us up to play them. The guy who usually plays tuba with us, was recovering from surgery, and is not allowed to lift (or blow into) heavy objects. So we were lucky enough to find a replacement tuba player, who was able to rehearse a few hours with Greg, earlier in the week. But Friday evening's gig was the time the four of us had ever played together. The new tuba guy was phenomenal !

It went over incredibly well..we played Cajun, zydeco and assorted N.O. funk and blues. Some Latin, some rock and roll. Free food and beer for the musicians, plus we each made $100 on top of that. I get paid to have fun !!
