Default The Best Crash I've Played In My Life

    18" Paiste Signature Full Crash.

You can roll on it with mallets perfectly, the crashing sound is beautiful it's hard to describe but it produces as fast crashing sounds that leaves just enough overtone to be heard for another note at around 140 bpm, and the overtone is just loud enough to be heard over the bass and snare.

Well worth the money, though it's a little thinner than other cymbals I've used, so if your a hard hitter and you know you aren't hitting cymbal properly, you'll end up wasting your money and either replacing it 6 months or getting a crack cut out in 6 months.

Not a good ride, the bell will never produce a ride bell sound, but it's perfect for those moments when using a crash instead of hi-hat beat.

I have a friend with that exact crash, and it is indeed very nice. it explodes quickly and then gets out of the way. I have some warped sense of loyalty to Zildjian. But Paiste does make some really good cymbals. As does Sabian!

This is a tough decision... I love the explosive controlled sound of the 16" AAXplosion crash but I also LOVE the sweet punch of the 16" Vault crash.

    Its all deadly

Have seen no one mention UFIP cymbals. great sounding. Made in Italy, which is east of Switzerland, and west of Turkey. True to form they have a sound somewhere in between Paiste and Zildjian. A hint of European glassiness with that mysterious Arabian finish. My favourite crash, is believe it or not a 14" ancient UFIP. Found it in a second hand store for 20 bucks. My advice, before laying out large for this pricey stuff, keep your eyes peeled. You never know what you might find!

    all he best...

Agree 100% the AAXplosion is the best crash I have ever played ,the 18.5(?) inch chad smith explosion edging in at a close second though

I have fallen in love with the 18" Zildjian A Custom Fast Crash. I can guarantee that it will be my next cymbal purchase.

Custom A's sound too muffled IMO. I don't know what it is, but I've always thought that each one of them sounded different from each other, like tone wise, not size.

The one time I've gotten to play Custom A's they sounded phenomenal, not muffled at all.

Ya know, I had the opportunity to hear some Paiste cymbals today and I gotta tell you, I was thoroughly impressed. I (and I'm sure a few of the old timers here) remember when Paiste were junk - you'd have gotten better sound grabbing a couple of trash can lids, drilling a hole in the center and hanging them from a stand than you would with a Paiste but dang, the stuff I heard today was awesome. I too have a semi-warped sense of loyalty to Zildjian although over the past few years I've migrated to Sabian for my crashes and now will consider Paiste when I add to my collection.

Generally top of the line 18" crashes sound great, I checked out a lot of cymbal last weekend at my local shop, they all sounded different, but they were all great to do cymbal rolls on and were easy to make a crashing sound out of (Like tapping the cymbal a little stronger than lightly would make a good crashing sound).

That statement seems so funny now. I found a used 18" Zildjian K Crash/Ride, and THAT turned out to be my next cymbal purchase. NEVER make statements in absolutes! (or is that ALWAYS? I get soooo confused!)
