I’m with you, I’ll never clean another cymbal. I did this in my middle school days when I didn’t know any better. Cleaning them changes the tone, makes them brighter. Give me the grime and dirt, drys everything up real nice.

I basically just wipe fingerprints off the shiny ones. You know the ones that develop when muting a cymbal crash?

Ok, well I used to. Don't even do that anymore.

I like Groove Juice and Bar Keeper's Friend. Both of them work very well. I like to keep my cymbals shiny. Peace and goodwill.

I found something better than Groove Juice and Bar Keeper's Friend. It is Oxi-Clean in the purple can. I can clean a whole set of cymbals in about 20 minutes. Afterward, they look band new, and the logos are not affected at all. Follow the directions on the can. Peace and goodwill.

Wow, that's quite a statement. Thanks for sharing Mark, I'll have to try it out.

I read somewhere just today that this drummer uses Finger Ease (the guitar string lubricant) to clean his cymbals. It got me thinking, if that lubricant works, I wonder what other lubricants might work.

Although I do not clean cymbals hardly ever. I may try this on a few. Thanks for the info!
If I had brilliant finish cymbals I may do this but almost all of mine are not and sound great just the way they are. I would definitely try this on for instance, B8’s.

It worked ok but barkeepers is a lot better but you’ll lose the logo.

I've heard a lot of people talking about Barkeepers but never tried it myself. I'm thinking of buying some.

You can find vids on YouTube about it.
Like I’ve mentioned, you’ll most likely lose the logo if that’s important to you.
For instance a hollow ink stamp logo on the bottom of a Zildjian cymbal which were put there I believe, like 1974 or so to 1981, were changed to a solid ink stamp because of MTV and the video craze made the Zildjian logo so it would stand out more in videos. This is what I’ve heard. So you wouldn’t want to lose that logo because it fetches more even though there’s no significance to the cymbal other than the hollow logo ink stamp.

Losing the logo doesn't bother me. I'll rub around it for awhile but when the logo starts looking dirty when the rest of the cymbal is clean, I'll just remove the logo.

Come to think of it, maybe I'll just create my own cymbal logo with TOM in big letters.

Well, I mean, I'm already confused. Is it a crash or a tom?
