I agree. Somewhere close to the hi-hats & snare. I use a cymbal stacker and put it right above my 14" crash on the LH side of the kit. Also makes it easy to do a double accent with the crash and splash right above each other.

Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!
"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham
We are talking about an 8"tom right?
this is shifty
im finding its not a good spot to have it as the first tom ...am i just used to playing a 10/12 setup?
It works pretty well in the first tom position. I can't put it to the left, moves the hats out too far. Otherwise I just probably wouldn't use it. My 8" DW has seen extremely minimal use. A rack would make things easier though.
Don't have a clue.
My smallest tom is 13 inches.

^ I love that bottom setup. I wanted to try it myself. I might when I setup the double bass version.
8" shifted
It looks weird from out front but looks cool from the drivers seat.
