    Hello everyone!

I hope you all have been well and enjoyong your drums. When I was a teenager I lived on these forums and ate drums for breakfast. I took a year or so hiatius from drumming and even sold my drumset to pay for rent. I had it in my head that music wasnt important and had different priorities.

I came to the realzation a few weeks ago that drumming was and is very crucial in my life. I decided to buy a new kit and start over. I realized that I have been approaching the insturment the wrong way and need to really buckle down and practice.

Youll be seeing me around here much more! Thanks for the support!

Welcome back. I did the same thing. I grew up playing, played on a few CD's, did a lot of live gigs, then life got in the way. Over the past year I got back into it. I'm not the house drummer at my church, I purchased a kit, and I've played several gigs in recent months. It was like riding a bike for me. I had to build some stamina and chops back up, but I feel I'm a better drummer now than I was 15 years ago when I played every week without a break.

Welcome back, Fredr. Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees.

So we cut them down, make them into drums and here we are.

    Nice kit!!!

I've been in your shoes. I quit for several years... only difference was mine wasn't by choice. :(

Glad you decided to come back! And that's a gorgeous Sonor!

I quit playing live gigs for quite a few years.................got sick of the late nights and the smoke.................not to mention a certain guitarist.

For many years, all I would play would be studio dates.............and really loved doing that for a long time........I was very fortunate to be a part of some creative projects.

About four years ago, I was dragged back in to a band situation and I have been having fun with it..............just played a really good gig Friday night -- packed house with a very enthusiastic & appreciative crowd -- that makes it all great.

The one thing I did right was keep all my gear.................just in case.

Well said, Ricardo. I think this hits it on the head. Sometimes it is burn out, sometimes it is a bad situation that you are in, and you get sick of it and walk away. Regardless, I think we have all probably taken some time off from time to time.

"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham
