Holy crap, the man's a beast.
Drums, yeah, and no cymbals!
And got to love the Yamaha scaffolding holding up his toms and cymbals.
You have to be union to set that up?
I have to admit, I'd never heard of him. Gone too soon, that's for sure. :(
Thanks, Oli.

I love that classic Yamaha kit
Larry was the drummer who replaced Steve Smith in Journey . Or at least he was the one who played drums on Steve Perry's album and then went on to record the Journey CD "Raised on Radio" . I LOVE the grooves on Steve Perry's "Foolish Heart" .That snare drum on that recording kills !
According to Steve they had used a lot of sequencing on the CD and he (Steve) could NOT play to a click track ! So in comes Larry . But they all knew Larry as he had already done Steve Perry's CD . Irony was that Larry didn't want to go on the road . So they had to hire someone for the tour as they had already burned their bridge with Steve Smith .
Larry was a great drummer but he was a bit obese and had health issues .
May he rest in peace .
I met Larry when our high school jazz band played at the Memphis Jazz festival. He spoke and did a short clinic, and played solo. He had a Octoplus set. Our group had played just before he did his thing and I went on stage to speak with him as he was breaking his drums down and putting them in the cases. He was very complimentary and encouraging of my vibraphone playing, and told me if I was ever in Nashville to call him and he would take me to the studio with him. I was 17 at the time.
