I used an 18"x18" on my Sonor-kit. It was low-pitched but not as low as I wanted. That's another reason I won't be using one on the next kit. Probably, I'll go for a gong-drum to handle the deep rumbles if needed.

My 18x16 cherry floor tom is a beast in terms of depth, and I can make it go deeper, it is where it is as it's tuned to a 'chord' (well, sort of) with the other 4 toms in my set.
