Default Stick Suggestions + Newbie Intro

    Hey guys,

My name is Aaron and this is my first post on the forum.

I have been drumming for over 15 years during which time I have always been in different punk/rock bands. I have done lots of touring and have recorded on at least 10 different records & E.P.'s. I have a 4 piece Shine kit (If anyone remembers them haha) that was custom made for me as I was endorsed by them before then went out of business.

Ok enough about me here is my question/dilemma:

I play my drums REALLY hard. It is not uncommon for me to break 10 sticks during a show (and a cymbal), which makes playing shows very expensive haha. I used to play with 5a sticks but quickly moved to 5b once I started going through so many sticks. My favorites are the Promark 5b Japanese Oak sticks but at $12/pair they are no longer in my price range.

Does anyone know the cheapest/durable 5b sticks that I can get? I usually just get the 5 stick packs at guitar center but figure there must be somewhere online I can get them cheaper? I'd really appreciate any suggestions or advice!

    Thanks in advance!

You should try out if available in your area Los Cabos Hickory stick. Affordable and very durable. They are made in Canada and I have been using both Maple and Hickory and they last. Welcome to DC.

These guys will tell you I'm a SUPER HEAVY hitter also...

they like to bust my chops at the poor sticks I destroy...

I've got some great luck with Vater sticks lately.
Been using the LA 5a I believe.

I'm a heavy hitter as well playing hard/punk/thrash/ rock . I was playing Zildjian Super 5B but are discontinued. I found out Vic Firth made the sticks for Zildjian. Now I play American Classic Extreme 5B hickory by Vic Firth. So far so good. Also the Pro Mark 747B Super Rock very durable stick.

    Years playing---60

Number of sticks broken while actually playing---maybe 10.

Number of sticks broken when pi$$ed---probably a couple of hundred.

I used Regal Tip Jazz sticks for decades. Now it's VF AJ 2's. Both fairly light sticks.

    Number of cymbals broken---0

You don't have to play like it's the beginning of 2001 A Space Oddysey.
