Try not to get too down about it. You will come through. It's a pain in the @ss and seems like a long time but it will pass before you know it. Do the exercises you get given and everything will be ok. Keep them up way beyond when you think you need to and it will come back even better than before.
Hang in there. I understand how demoralizing having a bum limb can be to a percussionist. I had surgery on my right foot which took over a year to heal and i still have chronic pain. I couldn't use my left hand twice in the last 7 years due to injuries. It sucks. You will come out fine on the other end. DO your physical therapy and let yourself heal. Sleep well and eat well. All the best

lol Haven't got it yet. I was out of work for 5 weeks and being self employed that means no paycheck for 5 weeks. Once i get caught up on bills I'm going to pick up a PDP concept maple kit 12" 16" 24" with the same finish as my kit and add the 24 kick and 16" fl tom on.
Well it's been 8 weeks. Arm feels good. Haven't done much drumming only 10 minute here, 10 minutes there. Today I go in for my final xray and hopefully I'll get the good to go from the Doc. Really looking forward to putting some time in behind the kit. Got to get the chops back.
Here's my current set up, I plan on adding a 24" kick that will be my main kick and I'll move the 22" to the left. I also want to add an 18" floor tom as a Gong type drum. I'll be going with the PDP concept maple with the same finish as my kit. The lugs will be different but I can live with that. I missed 6 weeks of work and being self employed that means no paycheck for 6 weeks so I probably won't make the purchase until sometime in spring.
What a bummer such a beautiful kit to play. Hope you get the ok and start drumming again. Yeah I hear you about the self employed ( been there was self employed for 30 years with luck never was sick or injured) you can't afford to be sick or injured cause the money stops rolling unless you have a fair size business where it can continue to run without you then it's great. Good luck and keep on drumming
Just be thankful they still have your finish... my finish is gone forever...
X-ray looks good arm is still healing but the Doc says I'm good to go!!!!!
I played my kit for 30 minutes non stop yesterday. Just me no music, just playing whatever entered my brain. The arm was sore by the end of it but the Doc said it will be for a while as it's still healing. So nice to do a little drumming after 9 weeks of nothing.
Sorry that happened to you. I know full well what it's like to not have all your limbs able to play. I didn't play any of my kits for almost a year after I had the knee replaced a couple years ago. Feel your pain, but looks like you will be good to go!! Nothing can keep a good drummer down!

Well 12 days ago I broke my kit down to a 4 piece and started the process of getting back in drumming shape. I played my kit for an hour and a half non stop, (put the ipod on and just did all old Beatles stuff) since then my elbow (where the break was) has been hurting. I don't have any plans or desires to play out ever again and I'll miss playing my kit but at this point I'd rather be as pain free as possible. I'm going to hold off playing for a few months and really let this arm completely heal up and see how it goes. Even though the Doc said I was good to go I think the impact of playing was a bit much at this point.
Maybe just gear it down a bit and instead of an hour and a half, just go for shorter stints at a time like maybe 1/2 hour. You can build up to longer sessions as you heal.
I'm sorry to hear man!
If I have drums in the house I just can't not play them. I set my full kit back up yesterday and played for an hour , took a break for a few hours and played for another hour. This time it went well , just very minor pain. I put on Permanent Waves and played Natural Science Before finishing up, I was surprised I still remembered it, haven't played that song in years. The fun is returning.
Glad things are improving.
NPYYZ: so, how have you been doing? I know it's only been a few weeks since your last post, and things sounded good. I've been off the drums for 5 weeks now, broken left leg. I had surgery 3 weeks ago to have a pin put into my left tibia, and I'm still on the 'no weight' part of my recovery. I'm a righty, so that leg is my high hat pedal leg. My kit is upstairs, and I haven't been able to get up the stairs since the leg broke, and I can barely remember what my kit looks like! Don't know what it's going to be like once I can start to put weight back on the leg...maybe by the end of next week I'll get some good news from the doc. This is the first time I've ever broken a bone, and it STINKS!!! Been off work for 5 weeks, and housebound during this recovery. Everyone, please be careful and don't break anything...it's no fun at ALL!!!!
Now, just a tiny bit less than an absolute drum newbie
