    Default Replacement snare head

    Hello,
Looking at replacing the head on a Pork Pie Little Squealer 12x5 head. It's for my 7 year olds drum kit. It's his x-mas present and i got it used and he will be ecstatic as he had been eyeballing it for months. He asked for "the used pork pie snare" for christmas. Along with some Zildjian K's (lol yeah well out of my budget right now)

The head is wore so I'm trying to find the best head for it.

I have Evans G2 coated on all of his toms right now. Any suggestions?

    thanks

Does he like it tuned up high and tight like the little squealer likes?

If so I wouldn't do the G2 coated.
I've never had much luck with those heads on snares.
On toms I use them on almost ALL of my kits.

    The do make the Evans:
    HD in a 12"
EC Reverse dot in a 12"
    or the G14 in a 12"

I would try one of those. Probably the G14

Honestly not sure how he would like the snare and not sure he knows at this point lol. He's going from a crappy no name metal snare to this Maple Pork Pie so it should be quite a change.

Since he's still learning, he hits the pretty good usually

I also found these from Aquarian, not sure how good they are.

    Aquarian:
Texture Coated Power Dot - all around performance
    High Energy - heavy hitters

They recommended Remo but I don't know much about the Remo compared to the others other than its what comes stock on it.

I've been less than thrilled with the G14 as a snare head. G+ or ambassador x would be my suggestion if you want a single ply head with greater durability.
    Mmm... Saturns.

It's a small snare so you will probably want to tune it up higher... I'd go for a single ply coated (Evans G1 or Remo Ambassador). Personally, I'm a remo guy. You could also try the Remo controlled sound coated head.

    Now about those K's...
    Too Much Stuff.
