Hi, came to drum yesterday at nd found this :(

It was my brother who did it and said he forgot!
And he's marked my head on the snare ...
Does anyone touch your drums? Or is it just me?!

One of my students had a crayon in their pocket and when I wasn't looking they pulled it out and started drawing on the floor tom head (of course G1 white coated heads). I immediately yelled at him and he felt bad. But then I had to hear from every student afterwards why is there crayon on the heads... was so annoyed by it.

    Bridie...................yes..............annoying .

Looks to me like the head is as old as the stick.
Tell your brother he needs to buy both for you.

I'm in a completely different scenario that you are, but my youngest daughter sometimes plays my drums. Although she's never broken a stick or damaged a head, I can honestly tell you I wouldn't care if she did. I love to see her trying the drums and expanding her musical curiosity.

Again, completely different scenario and I understand your frustration. But for me, it's just a pair of sticks or a drum head.

It is annoying Bridie but did he have permission to touch your drums. If he did then probably just a learning experience especially if he don't have the technique to hitting heads without damaging your gear. Now if he was told not to touch them then that is a totally different story he should be told off and pay for the damages would be the right thing to do.

Love it when other people play my drums. That's how I got I to drums - playing someone else's.

    Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!

I'm on the fence with this one

If he was granted permission to play and it happened, I would be upset but things happen.

If he was not granted permission and broke the stick, I would be highly upset for 2 reasons :

    1) Not asking permission

    2) Breaking the stick and not saying anything, to me "I forgot" doesn't cut it. To much technology these days to get a message to you.

I know a stick is stick and some might say no big deal besides most drummers have more than one set of sticks. It's the principle behind it not telling me/somebody that the stick is broken.

He didn't ask, he just went in and did it, he plays guitar and bass and we share the music room,
He did ask how much a new pair of sticks were but hasn't replaced them yet!
If he was my kid brother it would be cute but he's 20!!
And the cymbal is still hanging in there

You could always autograph it. It'll be worth something after you become rich and famous.

One of my students broke my favorite crash cymbal once. I left the room for a few minutes and he played 'extremely' hard. That was a bad day for me. I didn't make him pay for it but I was really upset. Favorite cymbals are hard to replace.

Bridie, I would ask your brother to buy you a new pair of sticks. It's the responsible thing to do if he broke them.

Has your brother admitted to this or even apologized?

I still think he owes you a few quid for the sticks.

He claims he didn't notice the bead ping off.
Bit miffed as the sticks are Oak and usually last me months.
Pretty sure he will replace them. Or Mum will impose sanctions on him

I can imagine the instant regret your student was feeling. Breaking other peoples things is the worst. You try to stay calm, but you can't help being Upset.

Bridie- if I was your brother, I would feel guilty and buy you a new pair.

    Poorly made stick.
The cross grain ran too close to the tip and was easily broken.
ALWAYS make sure the grain runs the length of the stick before purchasing it.
